Melasma

Melasma

Sometimes the dark patches appear slowly. A shadow across the cheeks. A mask-like discoloration on the forehead. Melasma is a form of hyperpigmentation caused mainly by hormonal changes, sun exposure, and genetics.

It is especially common during pregnancy, while using hormonal medications, or after long periods of sun exposure. Melasma appears as brown or grey patches, usually on the cheeks, forehead, nose, and upper lip.

For people with melanin-rich skin, melasma can be particularly stubborn. The skin produces more pigment when triggered by sunlight or inflammation, which makes the patches darker and more difficult to fade.

Treatment for Melasma

At Doo Havilah Aesthetics, Abuja, we treat melasma using carefully selected treatments that protect the skin while improving discoloration. Options may include PRX peels, chemical peels, microneedling, and advanced skin therapy designed to gradually reduce pigmentation.

With proper treatment and sun protection, melasma can become significantly lighter and easier to manage.
